As the first fintech event held twice a year in the USA and Africa, Africa Fintech Summit boasts the largest network of African fintech stakeholders from across the globe. Since 2018, AFTS has hosted more than 1500 attendees, representing each of the top stakeholder segments, from 51 countries and 6 continents. Strategic partners have included the U.S. Department of State, Ethiopia’s Ministry of Innovation and Technology, Nigeria’s Office of the President, KCB Group, TDB Bank, Flutterwave, IBM, Microsoft, and many more.
This year, we have merged our two bi-annual events into one, three-day virtual event. The fifth AFTS will host 500 attendees and 60 speakers calling in from 10 different time zones across 6 continents. Each day’s content is organized by themes and covers trends we uncovered during the preparation of Africa Fintech: State of the Industry 2020, a 63-page report solely dedicated to Africa’s fintech innovators, investors, policymakers, and more.
The themes of each day are as follows:
Day One – Fintech by Region invites thought leaders to discuss, contrast, and compare the fintech-related trends and challenges faced in different countries and regions. This deep dive into regional ecosystems will aim to shed light on the types of activities and regulation needed to support interoperability, financial inclusion, and innovation.
Day Two – Fintech-Enabled Business Models focuses on how fintech supports the growth of three non-fintech sectors – ecommerce, healthcare, and agriculture – and the trends influencing each, such as COVID-19 and AfCFTA. We also dedicate a session to pay-as-you-go business models that have seen a significant increase in popularity due to their ability to facilitate access to otherwise inaccessible, yet crucial, services.
Day Three – The Business of Fintech is dedicated solely to the operators driving fintech innovation in Africa. We invite thought leaders from the most successful companies to discuss best practices for common innovator challenges like market expansion and growth, raising capital, applicability of blockchain, targeting the last- mile, and vetting prospective fintech partners. Day Three also features the regional semi-final and pitch competition for Startup World Cup, the winner of which will go on to compete on a global stage for US $1M.
To complement the thought-provoking content provided by our speakers, #AFTS2020 also features a startup exhibition hall, interactive partner-led workshops and roundtables, AI-powered and curated networking sessions, 1×1 meeting opportunities, and gamification leaderboards and awards that encourage audience engagement.
#AFTS2020 promises to be an insightful and valuable global platform that supports the growth of Africa’s tech communities and fintech ecosystem. We look forward to seeing you there!
