H.E. Joseph Mucheru (Cabinet Secretary for Ministry of Information & Communications of Kenya) sat down with Akaego Okoye at the beginning of AFTSCairo2021 to discuss Kenya’s fintech journey ‘From M-Pesa to Tomorrow.’

On the sidelines of AFTSCairo2021, the Central Bank of Egypt sat down with their counterparts at the Central Bank of Congo to discuss best practices in fintech regulation and explore ways in which the Democratic Republic of the Congo can learn from Egypt’s journey in building a flourishing fintech industry.

The Embedded Finance breakout panel was one of 13 different sessions that attendees had the opportunity to attend at AFTSCairo2021.

One of the highlights of AFTSCairo2021 was the Cairo Ecosystem Tour which featured major players in the local fintech ecosystem. This picture was taken during the tour that attendees had the opportunity to take of the Central Bank of Egypt’s GRID Hub in downtown Cairo.

AFTSCairo2021 concluded with the North Africa Regional Startup World Cup which featured AFTS’ 2022 AlphaExpo cohort startups pitching to a panel of judges. The winner of this competition was Mohab Aboueita’s (pictured) Amanleek, an Egyptian InsurTech startup revolutionizing the relationship between Insurance companies and their customers.
